“I’m going to make everything around me beautiful—that will be my life.” – Elsie De Wolfe
I have this thing with beauty. It’s in my name: Jamila comes from the Arabic word jamāl meaning “beauty” or “beautiful.”
When I think of the word beauty, what comes to mind is symmetry and style. There is beauty in composition; balance, rhythm, harmony, proportion. Beauty is having the power to attract, to draw interest. Beauty is inspiring and stimulating. It is composed of the moments that open our eyes, and remind us of the thrilling experience of being alive.
I believe that life is often filled with lovely, fleeting moments, and that we should look for the magic in the everyday–we can always choose to enjoy the sweet side of life.
More about me:
I’m a Trinidadian-born ’80s baby whose family moved to Florida in the early ’90s. After graduating with a B.S. in Marketing in 2006, I worked in business communications for real estate development firms in Orlando.
I’ve never met a shoreline I didn’t love and fruit chow (especially mango!) makes my heart smile.
I currently work in merchandising for a San Francisco-based company, but have never left my first love–writing. I continue to freelance for online publications, and here, share a mix of fun finds and journal-style thoughts.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy reading!
